JUNIOR DRAUGHTSPERSON (Apprentice)

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice to join our team and support the growth of our Design team while working to achieve a Level 3 qualification as a Technical Support Technician (under the Engineering Technician standards) through Leeds City College.

Energyline Ltd is a fast-growing independent multi-disciplinary engineering, planning and environmental consultancy specialising in the design and consenting of power system projects including overhead lines and underground cables.

Across the company we offer design solutions, planning and environmental consultancy expertise as well as site-based services including overhead line surveys, design studies relating to overhead lines and underground cable schemes, condition inspections, site investigations and engineering/ environmental surveys.

Role specific responsibilities

The role : 

Reporting to the Manager of the Overhead Line Design Team, you will learn to prepare drawings and models using AutoCAD and prepare data, notes and content for reports.

The Overhead Line Design Team at Energyline consists of a mix of skillsets in the disciplines of Mechanical, Civil, Structural and Materials Engineering. Our outputs to our clients consist of a wide range of technical drawings and reports and your role would be to assist in the administration and production of these deliverables.

The role involves compliance with industry standards and company best practice to ensure our work is of the utmost quality and to provide a service to our clients that they can trust.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of 2D engineering drawings using AutoCAD
  • Preparation of 3D models using AutoCAD
  • Administration of QA systems/ spreadsheets
  • Collating and reviewing reference data
  • Interpreting technical drawings
  • Preparation of 3D models using Bentley MicroStation
  • Preparing engineering calculations from spreadsheets
  • Preparing design notes/ content for reports

 

The Apprenticeship training :

This Apprenticeship will be delivered through a mixture of college and work based learning over a period of 42 months.

Successful candidates will attend Leeds City College’s Printworks Campus (near to the Leeds Dock area) for two days per week in the first year (this reduces to one day per week in subsequent years) to learn the skills/ knowledge required to be successful within this role.

They will also receive a visit once a month in their place of work from their assessor, where delivery will take place on a one to one basis.

Technical Support Technicians, work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas of the Engineering and Manufacturing function. The requirements are designed to offer stretch and progression. They will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of the work they undertake. They will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.

This standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.

 

Future opportunities within Energyline :

We would expect that, at a minimum, a permanent draughting role at Energyline would be well within your scope. We have a diverse range of roles at Energyline and we would hope to offer opportunities for growth to those individuals that demonstrate a desire to do so and have gained the necessary competencies. With around 40 employees, Energyline has a collaborative culture and is proud to offer training and development opportunities for all of its staff.

We are moving offices to Copgrove, North Yorkshire in Spring/Summer 2023 where we also have workshop, testing and training facilities. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to engage in some of these activities.

Salary : £7.50 per hour. Upon successful completion of the 6 month probationary period, the wage will be reviewed to £8.72 per hour.

Hours : Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm (30 mins unpaid lunch break) – 37.5 hours per week. Two days per week will be spent at Leeds City College (Printworks Campus) during term time in the first year of apprenticeship. This will reduce to one day per week in subsequent years.

Experience required

Skills and experience required:

  • Maths GCSE grade 4 and for other subjects, minimum GCSE requirements for apprenticeships.
  • Good communication and time keeping skills.
  • An ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • An interest in solving problems and understanding how things work.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of software would be advantageous.
  • A full clean UK driving license would be desirable but is not essential.
