Experience

We have extensive Condition Assessment experience across the Energy Sector
Tower / Pole Climbing and Ground Based Condition Surveys
Post Construction Inspections
Tower Painting Quality Assurance
Conductor system and earthwire using CORMON equipment
Foundation Evaluation Studies
Technical specification compliance checks, steelwork assessment
Ground based walkthrough assessments of towers, fittings, muffs and reporting

Support

We provide a range of support services and activities to our Condition Assessment projects
In-house overhead line technicians who hold current authorisations for NGT and various DNO’s
Issue PDF tower reports, condition data, and hi-res images
Issue of an overall route summary report
Site supervision of the tower painting contractors
Climb and inspect / sign off all 3 stages of the paint process: Steelwork Preparation, Primer Application, Top Coat application
Excavating and shoring support

Technologies

We use the latest technologies with Condition Assessment projects
Full bar by bar assessment of the tower, grading in accordance with NGT specification TS 3.04.31.
Ultrasonic thickness readings to determine section loss, photos of every grade 5 / 6 bars and examples of grade 3 / 4 bars
Conductor system and earthwire using CORMON equipment
Linear Polarisation Resistance Testing (LPR)
Transient Dynamic Response Testing (TDR)

Tower / Pole Climbing and Ground Based Condition Surveys

Full bar by bar assessment of the tower, grading in accordance with NGT specification TS 3.04.31. Ultrasonic thickness readings to determine section loss, photos of every grade 5 / 6 bars and examples of grade 3 / 4 bars, assessment of conductor system and earthwire using CORMON equipment, assessment hi – low spans, insulators & fittings, Muffs, tower furniture and earthwire, corrosion measurements of tower leg, non-intrusive testing of foundations, issue PDF tower reports, condition data, and hi-res images, Issue of an overall route summary report

We also offer ground based walkthrough assessments of towers, fittings, muffs and reporting which feed into the client assets management (ESQR), along with pole-top inspections and pole condition deterioration via a mixture of visual and non-intrusive, non-destructive techniques.

Post Construction Inspections

Working on behalf of the client we complete: Technical specification compliance checks, steelwork assessment – including bolt torque setting, Conductor system assessment (conductor access or visual), Wire clearance assessment, OPGW/ Earth wire Inspection, Muff Condition, Tower Furniture, Span assessment, line schedule verification, sag checks. With all defects photographed and reported

Tower Painting Quality Assurance

We provide site supervision of the tower paining contractors employed on a contract working either directly for the client or the main contractor. We climb and inspect / sign off all 3 stages of the paint process: Steelwork Preparation, Primer Application, Top Coat application which includes dry film thickness readings.

Foundation Evaluation Studies

Non-intrusive foundation inspections are carried out using a combination of visual assessment of condition of muff concrete and coating. Linear Polarisation Resistance Testing (LPR) and Transient Dynamic Response Testing (TDR) this when combined with geotechnical findings informs design of sites that may require us to complete Intrusive foundation inspections which consist of excavating and shoring support which permits our experienced staff to take dimensions of the foundations, assess condition and take a concrete cores for lab testing.

Condition Assessment Case Studies

XZ 275kV OHL - Site Condition Assessments

On behalf of Scottish Power Energy Networks we provided an integrated service package all delivered by our in-house staff. Including ground based visual inspection of all towers on the route, geotechnical desk study and intrusive foundation inspections.

Western Power - Various 66kV - 132kV Routes - Cormon Conductor Surveys

Utilising our in house Cormon testing equipment we have surveyed a vast number of routes across the WPD network to assess the condition of the conductor systems, working independently we receive permits, earth the towers and land the equipment on the conductor.

Beauly - Denny 400kV New Build - Post Construction Inspections

Energyline were engaged throughout the project by our client Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks to climb and inspect all towers over a 12 month period, works involved checking new build towers and conductor system in accordance with the project technical spec. Findings were reported back into the client and contractor with supporting reports and photographs. Beauly – Denny was the largest construction project of its type in Scotland to date.

Skye Reinforcement

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) were assessing the existing 132kV Quoich to Broadford (QB) overhead line for reutilisation, as part of the larger Skye Reinforcement Project. Energyline were engaged to undertake pertinent studies and surveys to inform the assessment of existing lattice steel towers.
