Energyline’s Geotechnical and Ground Investigation team provide professional advice and practical solutions for a wide range of sectors. We have considerable expertise in Electricity Networks and the challenges they pose, providing Geotechnical advice to clients including SSE, Scottish Power and National Grid.

We have a team of experienced field operatives including Geotechnicians and Surveyors who provide insitu testing, sample logging and monitoring capabilities in accordance with relevant International and British Standards.

Experience

We have extensive experience across the Energy Sector and beyond providing the following services:
Geotechnical and geoenvironmental desk studies.
Ground investigation scoping, supervision and contract management.
Field geomorphological mapping and geohazard identification.
Peat Landslide Hazard Risk Assessments (PLHRA)
Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRA)
Ground investigation (GIR) and geotechnical design (GDR) reporting
Slope stability risk assessments
Geotechnical analysis and design (shallow and deep foundations, andslope stability)

Support

We provide a range of support services and activities to our Geotechnical design projects.
Phase 1 ESAs.
Asset assessments including intrusive foundation inspections (IFI).
Technical specifications.
At support electrical clearance studies.
Foundation load and strength assessments.
We also maintain an external Technical Expert Network to provide knowledge and advice on a range of subjects ranging from geotechnical finite element analysis (FEA) through to trenchless drilling design for utility crossings.

Technologies

We use the latest technologies with Geotechnical design projects.
Assessment of current and historical mapping datasets ARC GIS platform.
Geohazard mapping utilising LIDAR and aerial imagery datasets.
Geotechnical Ground Modelling using Geo5 software.
Foundation design analysis using advanced modelling methods (FEM).
At tower wire clearance modelling.

Geotechnical Design Case Studies

Hinkley Connection Project. Geotechnical Support

Geotechnical analysis and design of eight individual gravity pad foundations for a new 132, 000 kV overhead line.

QB Project (Highlands Region)

Part of the design team tasked with foundation and civil infrastructure design for installation of prototype OHL support structures (NeSTs) in area of recent large scale slope instability.

Kinardochy Substation (Perth & Kinross)

Responsible for the design of staged ground investigation for the pre-construction stage tender design. The scope included development of an investigation strategy to allow for design of 25m deep rock slope designs in variably weathered neoproterozoic sequences, as well as a sampling and testing regime to allow for borrow material assessment for the proposed 20m high platform construction.
